BFI Future Film Festival Volunteers 2024

Closed 14/01/2024

The BFI Film Academy is looking for a team of enthusiastic and committed volunteers to help us deliver our annual film festival. The BFI Future Film Festival is for aspiring filmmakers aged 16 to 25 who want to learn from people already in the screen industry and is the UK’s largest film festival for young filmmakers.

Over four days from 15 - 18 February 2024, the festival presents panels and masterclasses with high-profile industry talent, networking opportunities, and screenings of the best short films from young, emerging filmmakers. The festival attracts 1000+ young people every year.

We are looking for people who have a strong interest in the screen industries, and want to get some experience in events and customer service.

As a volunteer you’ll have the opportunity to learn how a busy festival is run and how events and screenings are delivered. In this role you’ll also have plenty of opportunity to enjoy various events at the festival, learn practical skills that you can take with you into future roles, and meet other people with an interest in the industry.

Main aims:

To assist the BFI Future Film Festival team in delivering events and screenings, as well as giving information to festival attendees and industry members involved in the festival.

As a volunteer you will:

  • To act as a source of information and guidance to festival attendees from the festival information desk and throughout the building.
  • Direct customers to screening rooms, reception areas, ticketing points, and all BFI public areas.
  • Serve refreshments to guest speakers and VIPs as instructed by the Senior Producer/BFI Events team and potentially guide them to their relevant screening rooms.
  • Scan and check tickets to events and assist in event delivery when required.
  • Serve refreshments in our networking areas.
  • To undertake any other duties that may be required.
  • To me an ambassador for the BFI, maintaining a professional and friendly approach at all times.

If you would like to express an interest in volunteering, please fill out the application form and let us know any experience you have in events, hospitality, and customer service. And why you’re keen to volunteer at Future Film Festival.

During the Festival we may ask you to help with tasks outside your assigned role.

Hours:

We ask that you are available to volunteer for all 4 days of the festival 15 - 18 February 2024 with shifts between the hours of 9am - 5pm. You will be provided with lunch and refreshments throughout the day and reimbursement of travel costs within zones 1-6. There will also be a mandatory training day at BFI Southbank on Wednesday 7 February from 16:00 - 18:00.

Please note, this is an unpaid voluntary position, and you must be over 18 years old to apply.

Application:

We support diversity and inclusion, and as an organization recognize that we need to address under representation within our teams. As such we strongly welcome and encourage applicants from our under-represented groups; those who are deaf or disabled, LGBTQIA+ and/or part of the global majority.

Please submit your application form by Sunday 14 January at 23:59. If you have any questions or you need any assistance during the application process, please send us an email at filmacademy@bfi.org.uk.
